Kid's Campus strives to hire the best trained staff, and to offer continuing education support to ensure all our staff keep pace with the highest State educational standards for child care professionals.
The owner, Tracy Merriman Jost, earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland in Paralegal Studies and worked in a law firm in Upper Marlboro that specialized in family law for three years. She returned to school in the evenings while working, and received a Master's Degree in Education from Towson University and is now a member of the faculty at the graduate school. After teaching preschool at a local child care center she opened Kid's Campus in 2006.
Tracy completed a Pre-PhD Certificate of Advanced Study in Education Public Policy from Towson Universtity. She is active in the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is currently Co-President of the Maryland affiliate with some 2,200 members.
In 2011, Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley appointed her to a four-year term on the Governor's State Advisory Council on Early Childhood Education and Care.
Our Professionals All Kid's Campus teachers are credentialed through the Maryland State Department of Education and every staff member is hired only after being fingerprinted and passing a law enforcement background check. They all take continuing education course work and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.
The Maryland Child Care Credential is a voluntary program that recognizes child care providers who go beyond the requirements of State licensing and registration regulations. There are six credential levels, each one recognizing a child care provider's achievement of a specified number of training hours, years of experience and professional activities which lead to quality child care. Participating providers complete training in specialized topic areas to develop the knowledge and skills they need to provide the highest quality care for the children and families they serve. Most of our staff are credentialed at level 4 and higher.
We have a mix of teachers, some with more than 20 years of experience in child care, and younger professionals, several who are attending college while working at Kid's Campus. Some of our teachers have either an Associate's, or a Bachelor's degree or are currently pursuing Master's degrees in education. We provide financial assistance to many of our staff to be able to afford continuing education, or for those working to complete a degree.
We are very proud that 2 of our staff have earned a degree while working at Kid's Campus and have advanced to become public school teachers in local schools. It's not just the little ones we're helping!
